Between an Axed Moon & a Blood Wing Cold bites into my skin, even in dreams there can be this haunting where exhalation becomes difficult under weight of shadow, and the moths drift, talc on silk. They are a quiet drowning, the way they melt into snow. My grey gloves are the ravens of this world, shadow play over the bracelet of the lake. My breath that fogs its surface is arsenic white with stars that harden, then cave in. I am only beginning to understand my role here, and the nightjars, my companions, part of the darkening that clothes me, and there's such silence in their mouths. Lisa--so good to see your work here on Wild again. This is lovely writing. Spare like the cold itself. This section, my favorite, probably because your line breaks take me in such unexpected directions: They are a quiet drowning, the way they melt into snow. My grey gloves are the ravens of this world, shadow play over the bracelet of the lake. Well written. best, ljc http://ljcbluemuse.blogspot.com/
